St. Paul's Lutheran Women
The women of St. Paul's do a number of charitable projects during the year. They also make a huge contribution to the Church by donating funds to help pay our winter's oil bill, as well as special projects during 2010 (our roof, a replacement copy machine, and money towards a new oil tank).
Quilters
Wednesday mornings offer anyone interested in quilting an opportunity to ply their trade or learn how to quilt. St. Paul's Lutheran Women produce quilts of all sizes and for a variety of occasions. They create baby quilts, lap quilts, quilts to sell at Church functions, requested quilts, and quilts sent to Lutheran World Relief (www.lwr.org). We always have quilts reserved to give to local families in need. We could use many more volunteers in this area. Please call Laura Lee Gibson (208) 245-2084, or Joan Aswegan (208) 689-9581 if you are interested.
Lutheran World Relief (www.lwr.org)
The St. Paul's Lutheran Women do a number of fundraisers (rummage sales, serving dinners, etc.) in order to purchase supplies for the School and Health kits needed by Lutheran World Relief ("LWR"); they also make quilts that they send (see above under "Quilters"). LWR sends supplies to countries such as Azerbaijan, Belarus, Guatemala, Mauritania, Tanzania, Palestine (Gaza), Peru, and the Phillipines.
The Health kits contain basic hygiene supplies such as soap, towels, and bandaids. The School kits, each in its own cloth bag, contain such items as scissors, pencils, ruler, crayons, and a notebook. These kits are put together around the end of September or early October each year. If you would like to help with this project, please contact Laura Lee Gibson (208) 245-2084.
Bethel Institute
We save cancelled stamps all year and collect them to send to Bethel Institute in Bielefeld, Germany. The residents there are physically and/or mentally challenged and socially disabled. They clean, sort, and sell the stamps all over the world to collectors. The residents are paid a salary for this work. It gives them a little money to buy personal items, accessories or additional clothing or gifts for family or loved ones.
Stamps are also collected for Stamps for a Living, which benefits the Deaf/REACH program at St. Elizabeth's Hospital. This is done in conjunction with The United Church in Washington, D.C.
Please put stamps in the box on the Narthex table.
Our Local Schools
There is a box on the Narthex table for Campbell's Soup labels, which benefit our local schools.
Valentine Boxes
Members of our church have sons, daughters, and grandchildren who are away at college or serving in the military.
We send a Valentine Box the second Wednesday in February to those young people. Boxes for the military have non-perishable items such as magazines, a deck of cards, jerky, multi-grain bars, razors, socks, hand sanitizer, cocoa mixes and kleenexes. Boxes for college students have candies, cookies, nuts, gum, etc.
It is our way of letting the young people know that we are praying for them.
C.A.Y.A.M. project ("Campus and Young Adult Ministry"). Contact Laura Lee Gibson for more information at (208) 245-2084.
